The poppies are not blooming in Idyllwild, but nearby I discovered this beautiful poppy hosting a pair of bees doing what bees do in the spring – creating new life. There is hope for the future.

The Tree Swallows have returned to their summer breeding grounds. They’re gracing the skies with their aerobatic flights, and checking out nest cavities for their nurseries. Meadowlarks are pairing up, blackbirds are gathering and creating singing trees, and spring is in the air. I even had an unexpected encounter with a beautiful vulture.
What another great day at the San Jacinto Wildlife Area! Another birder with a long lens invited me to tag along to the Great Horned Owl Tree. I got a shot of Mom (which was amazing!) and then discovered that Dad was with her! I didn’t see him until I lightened the shadows in post. What a blessing!
I’m also getting to know MANY other birds on my adventures.
What an amazing day! Thanks to the deciduous trees, it’s easy to spot hawks and other raptors just hanging out in the trees. They are very patient, up to a point. And it’s wonderful to get lucky with some unexpected shots!
My new favorite place! I was only there for a couple of hours. AMAZING abundance of wild things. And beauty. Can’t wait to go back!
